F-86H Sabre Jet
Fighter
Manufactured by North American
The F-86 first flew on October 1, 1947 and was the first American fighter to
feature a swept wing. On April 26, 1948, it became the first US production fighter
to exceed the speed of sound (in a dive). Sabres (F-86A, E & F models) became
famous during the Korean War when they engaged in aerial combat with Soviet-built
MiG-15 jet fighters. The Sabre scored a kill ratio of better than 10 to 1 over
the MiG-15.
The radar-equipped F-86D & L were flown by the Colorado Air National Guard
in the 1950s along with a few F-86E & Fs. The Colorado ANG Minute Men precision
demonstration team flew acrobatic displays in their silver and red F-86Fs.

Our F-86H Sabre Jet
The F-86H on display was one of the last variants of the Sabre produced. It was
optimized for the fighter-bomber role and featured a more powerful engine, a
deeper fuselage and four 20mm cannon replacing the earlier six 50 cal. machine
guns.
