Sunday, April 14 — 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Meet all three authors of Lowry Air Force Base—Jack Stokes Ballard, John Bond and George Paxton. Hear them tell the highlights of Lowry’s history captured in the book.

In addition, Colonel Michael J. Wright (Ret.), the last base commander of Lowry Air Force Base, will be speaking about his command and his oversight as Lowry transitioned to a civilian bcommunity.

 

All Museum Members are invited to a private reception starting at 1:15 p.m.
Meet the authors and Colonel Michael J. Wright (Ret.) and have your book signed.
Light refreshments will be provided.

Event Admission:

Adults 13–64: $11.00

Seniors (65+), active military, and veterans: $9.00

Children ages 4 through 12: $6.00

Children under 4 admitted free when accompanied by parent

About the Book:

Lowry Air Force Base
From 1937 to 1994, Lowry Air Force Base served the nation and the surrounding community in many distinguished ways.

The air base, primarily a technical training center, graduated more than 1.1 million enlisted members and officers in skills ranging from armament to photography.

In addition, from the 1980s, Lowry Air Force Base remained one of Colorado’s largest employers, with approximately 10,000 military and civilian men and women, providing an economic impact approaching $1 billion annually.

About the Authors:

As members of Wings volunteer team, the collective knowledge and experience of these authors has expanded our capacity for serving Members and guests.

Jack holds a doctorate of philosophy in American history from UCLA, taught history at the Air Force Academy, served a career in the Air Force, and, as a lieutenant colonel, was chief of the Plans and Requirements Division at Lowry (1974–1980).

 

John, a retired Air Force master sergeant, was a student at Lowry and served at the base, and when assigned to the Air Force Academy, he greeted the first cadets at the Lowry interim site. He worked for IBM (1965–1988) and has served as volunteer historian and photograph archivist for Wings Over the Rockies.

 

George holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia, a doctor of medicine degree from Boston University and a Master of Science degree from the University of Colorado. He is a retired Denver
physician, served as a Public Health Service medical officer and was in the Naval Reserve, attaining the rank of captain.
